A Great man and supporter of the festival - Gone to the great singaround in the sky!

Farewell Phil

It's been good to know you!
Our ex chief Steward, Festival Supporter, Member of the Festival Executive committee and good friend Phil Seldon has tragically passed from us.
This will leave a big hole in the festival team that will be hard to replace.

Phil and his wife Dee have been supporting the festival for many years and has been the happy smiling face that many of could rely on to cheer us up at times of difficulty.
His honest and unbiased approach to supporting and promoting Folk music in Chippenham and Wiltshire has been wonderful as was his major part in the re-enactment groups for the Battle of Chippenham (pic above).

He amassed many friends in the area over the years and testament to this can be seen in the many facebook comments about him

So, Fare thee well Phil. You have been an inspiration to all and we send our love to Dee and your extended family. You will not be forgotten

A Womans Work - Grace Notes

A Woman's Work
A presentation of songs about women's work through time.
Grace Notes explore female occupations that are represented in traditional and contemporary material, from the C16th to the present day.
The wonderful Grace notes

You will hear songs and stories that span five centuries, from a fifteenth century Queen to a reluctant office-worker in the 21st century; and meet mothers, migrants, mill workers....laundry lasses, lace-makers and lavender girls...buffers and doffers and costers.

"Maids may sit still, go or run but a woman's work is never done"
This show is on Saturday afternoon in The Cause

Tickled Pink's Silver anniversary - some wedding!
The Ceilidh Event to end them all!

On Sunday 25th May at Chippenham Folk Festival we will be hosting Tickled Pink’s 25th Birthday Ceilidh. Yes, their first gig was here 25 years ago in the Neeld Hall.

To celebrate this momentous occasion we will be hosting an evening Ceilidh with Tickled Pink and an afternoon event for both Dancers and Musicians.

During the afternoon event, Musicians will rehearse a new tune set, with Tickled Pink, which they will perform with the band during the evening ceilidh. How often do you get the opportunity to perform with one of your favourite ceilidh bands?

Dancers will develop and perfect a new dance with Fee Lock, which will be danced to the new tunes.

So you get to meet the band, play with the band and write a dance for the band’s 25th Birthday bash. We are hoping we won’t have to limit numbers, and there are no advance tickets, but…..

Put this in your festival diary now and if you have (or know anyone who has) photographs from 25 years ago please scan them and let us have copies.

Sarah Morgan

Sadly Sarah passed away last year and we will all miss her for her warmth, interest and deep love of music. Some of the festival committee past and present were able to go to the recent Memorial concert that Sarah herself helped to arrange ( she even paid for the sandwiches!). It was one of the most heart warming concerts that many of us had been to with a wonderful cast of performers from the folk world that she was deeply attached and to her huge love of choirs that all sang in her memory.
Craig Morgan Robson in 2012
There is now a Sarah Morgan Memorial trust to assist and support community choirs.
Her work and love will go on for many years. Her singing partners Carolyn Robson and Moira Craig will be at the festival and there will be plenty of opportunities to toast the life and works of Sarah as many of her arrangements will undoubtedly be sung and remembered over the weekend. Sarah performed almost every year since the early 80's

THE DEMON BARBER XL Show is coming to town!

The Demon Barber RoadshowThis event will be at the Big Top event on the Monday evening of the festival.
We have wanted to get Damian Barber and his amazing troupe of performers for some years and now we have the reason to do it.
We are working with The Wiltshire Council, who is helping financially to cover some of the cost of this event, in order to work with a Street Dance group from Chippenham that have not worked with the festival before. Hopefully we will see them perform a cameo spot in the evening show itself.

The Concert is due to be held from 6.30pm - 8.30pm on the Monday (26th) and will be the only appearance of the Demon Barbers at the festival.

Entry to the event is by Season tickets (Full, Day and Evening) or there are some 200 tickets being made available specifically for just that concert only. These will be priced at £13 each.
All tickets will become available shortly via the website. Watch out for notifications, here and on facebook, about ticket releases and dates of price changes etc.

Should be a blast!

Just to whet your appetite there is a XL promo video on the video and pictures page

So, who's coming to Chippenham now then?
